Ola Launches a New Feature to Book Cab without Internet


BENGALURU: Ola, an online cab aggregator firm headquartered in Bengaluru, launched a new feature of offline cab booking. This new technology upgradation by Ola is to enhance customer experience and reaching out to those customers who didn’t have access to the internet. The ‘Ola Offline’ allow customers to book cab when they are sort of the Internet. The Tech 2 website reported that Ola is making efforts to outclass its market competitor Uber, a global taxi aggregator.

Ankit Bhati, Co-Founder, and CTO, Ola said, our country is going through a digital revolution and we are planning to enhance user experience with the latest technologies. He further elaborated many times it happens a customer runs out of internet balance while in need of a cab. We took that customer inconvenience as a launch-pad and have brought in a new feature where a customer can book a cab without any internet connectivity.

Ola enhanced its application in a way that while opening Ola app without any internet connectivity, it will show two options to the user as Retry and Book via SMS. The user will have to choose the Book via SMS option and it will redirect them to the user’s default messaging app with a pre-entered text message for the Ola cab booking request.

After sending the SMS, a user will get the details of all categories cabs nearby. Later, a user will have to select the preferred category and instantly they will get a message of the driver details. The contact details along with the GPS triangulated by the location of the user will be sent to the driver and they will pick the user from that location.

The ‘Ola Offline’ feature will be started at some metro cities and will later be rolled out in other 102 Ola featuring cities where Ola is providing its services. It will be available for all available Ola cab categories like Lux, Prime, Micro, and Mini. The Ola Offline feature uses SMS to help customers in the offline booking of Ola cabs. Offline feature was tested in small markets like Nagpur and Indore and now Ola is all pepped out to make this feature a reality.
