Oculus Keeps Tech-Lovers at the Edge of their Seat by Adding Features to its 360 Degree Video Library

BENGALURU: With the soaring popularity of virtual reality, buzzing all around the market, smartphone manufacturers are trying to offer an out of body experience for tech-enthusiasts across the globe. Virtual reality giant Oculus is trying to allure consumers by adding more educational and entertainment contents to the Samsung Gear headset, enhancing the charm of this budding new technology.

The new additions include “Nomads,” a three-dimensional video series from the Felix & Paul Studios that displays lifestyle of the remote parts of the world. The unique and innovative contents also include a video game called “Tactera” that enable players to plan a battlefield strategy on a holographic tabletop. “6X9” is another such 360-degree video series displaying a scenario of being trapped in a prison’s solitary confinement cell.

“Oculus can help people experience anything, anywhere,” comments Max Cohen, Head of Mobile, Oculus.

The idea of VR (virtual reality) technology that engages people in an artificial world existed for years, but has never been transformed into reality. Oculus, a startup bought by Facebook for $2 billion two years ago aimed to stage a platform for virtual reality. The company helped Samsung to design the VR Gear for its latest smartphones.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg remarks that VR happens to be the next major trend setter in the world of technology. Moreover, other tech giants such as Apple and Google are now trying to catch up with the latest trend. Google is expected to reveal a virtual-reality device at its annual developer’s conference after the release of its VR product called “Cardboard”.

Users of the Gear need only a set of headphones and one of the Samsung phones such as the S6 Edge Plus, S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, or Note 5. Simplifying the process of finding contents to watch and play on the Gear, Oculus also plans to release a new version of its app for the device.

“We think this (technology) can actually change people’s lives,” adds Cohen.
