Now Chat And Share Images With Flipkart's New In-App 'Ping'

BENGALURU: You select few products in an online portal and need to skip to a messenger to get your friends’ view on the same. The process becomes longer and time consuming.

As a solution, Flipkart is launching a new chat feature that can be accessed in its mobile app while you shop. This new chat facility is called Ping and it allows shoppers to share images with other members of the Flipkart app.

Use of Flipkart ping, allows users to share images, wishlists, carts and chat with the contact list of their phone. Ping is an invite only app and the size goes up to approximately 2MB. Ping will also allow users to create groups with the phone contacts just like Whatsapp.

Chief Product Officer at Flipkart Punit Soni said, "Shopping in real life terms is a fun experience. But online shopping till now was an isolating experience which we are trying to change with this new chat feature."

Soni expects the current Flipkart market scene to alter after Ping is launched.

Presently the site has 50million users of which 70pct access the app.

Soni further said, "Since 2007, we have seen a fundamental shift in the way users use internet. About 41 per cent of India's e-commerce happens on mobile. There are more people buying low cost android devices and when they buy that - messaging and buying are the prime things they do."

In July, online shopping site Snapdeal too launched Shopo, a new app to allow customers communicate within their app.
