No Stopping to WhatsApp Popularity, Users Number Now Touches 100 Mn Feat

BENGALURU: WhatsApp’s immense popularity can be estimated by the fact that 100 million voice calls are made every day across the world at a rate of over 1,100 calls per second. The WhatsApp calling feature, introduced initially for Android users worldwide, has now expanded the updated feature for iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone users as well. The report came from the Facebook-owned company, earlier on Thursday.

Taking into consideration that the feature was rolled out to Android and iOS users only in April last year, the number stands out to be a significant figure in itself. Despite the probability that a major number of these calls could come from individuals who make multiple calls a day, but it’s really a credible fact that the feature gained significant traction in such a small span of time. Reports indicate that, Skype’s user database notches a number close to 300 million per month, and conspicuously WhatsApp has surpassed this number with their ever-expanding number of active users.

WhatsApp calling feature has made communication seem easier. Jan Koum, Co-founder and CEO, WhatsApp extols, "Since the early days of WhatsApp, we've worked to tear down the boundaries that stand between people staying in touch with their friends and family. We made it possible to make calls using WhatsApp - for those times when it's important to hear a voice on the other end of your phone. Today, we're proud that people are making 100 million calls a day on WhatsApp!"

The advantage that users find while using the voice calling feature is that the data plan utilized for the same won’t drill a hole in your pockets. Moreover, the technology combines a mobile-centric approach, which is convenient for use.
