Netflix 4K Streaming To Hit The PCs, But Only Recommended To Processor Powered By Intel- Kaby Lake

BENGALURU: Watching action packed movies and sarcastic TV shows in television keeps the day running. But, watching those movies in 4K and more conveniently through laptops makes it even more interesting. Netflix, being the internet television network comes to meet the Windows audiences through the latest 4K streaming facilities. Although, the top-notch facility brings smile to the windows audience, the offer remains only lucky to few others using the seventh generation Kaby Lake processors from Intel. To view 4k Netflix, user will require additional facilities including Windows 10 PC and Microsoft Edge.

The initial 4K streaming on PC lacked the DRM concern and piracy from Hollywood studios and TV networks. In order to eliminate the issue, Microsoft introduced “PlayReady 3.0”, a hardware-based DRM system that needs a dedicated decoding hardware running on the CPU or the graphics card. It further prevents the video stream from being captured in software or an external device.

The hardware decoding support from Intel’s seventh generation also provides an alternative to the 4K codec issue. Kaby Lake processor powered by Intel supports 10-bit HEVC decoding compared to the older sixth generation Skylake CPUs supporting 8-bit HEVC decoding. The 4K streaming services only works in Microsoft Edge, as the browser holds the capability to support Playready DRM.

While Nvidia’s 10-series graphics cards including the GTX 1080, GTX 1070, and GTX 1060 holds the same feature of 10- bit HEVC decoding and PlayReady 3.0 support compared to the Microsoft, but it lacks the compatibility.
