Indian Mobile Rates Higher Than The US: Study


BANGALORE: Did you know that you're spending much more on mobiles rates as compared to people in developed countries? If not, then here is great piece of information that will enlighten you on your mobile rate spends. According to the recent report published by the International Telecommunication Union, India ranks 83rd , among 166 countries, in spending on mobile rates, this means citizens of 82 countries, including China, United States, United Kingdom, Germany and France, pay less on mobile rates than an Indian as compiled by Business Standard.

According to the reports, total communication revenue stagnated at around $1.88 trillion, which is 2.7 percent of world GDP and Indians alone are spending 2.23 percent of their Gross Domestic Income per capita for mobiles services. On the other hand, China is much ahead of India in the rank list with its citizen spending only 0.74 percent of their Gross Domestic Income per capita.

There was also huge difference in spending on prepaid mobile services by developing countries, which spent on an average 6.2 percent of their Gross Domestic Income as compared to 1.6 percent by developed countries.

In mobile broadband services, India ranked 81 and in terms of spends 2.58 percent of Gross Domestic Income per capita was devised for prepaid handset based on broadband services. In addition this spends was much larger than people in developed economies like United States, Austria and Italy.

In category of postpaid handset based broadband services, India was ranked 92 and spends 2.61 percent of its Gross Domestic Income per capita as compared to China, which ranked 6,3 while its citizen spending reported only at 1.48 percent of their total Gross Domestic Income per capita.

While in fixed broadband services, there was not much difference in terms of ranking between India and China, where India held 87, while china was one rank ahead. India spends 3.66 percent of the Gross Domestic Income per capita for fixed broadband services.

The amount spends by Indian on mobile rates is also important factor to note as India?s per capita income is very low as compared to developed countries. According to the study, India's average revenue on a monthly mobile plan based on 2013 rates is $ 2.91, while China has $ 4.06, nearly four times more than India.

Furthermore, India has one of the cheapest mobile services in a month, after Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Iran.
