Gain Remote Access to Your Smartphones in a 'Smart' Way

BENGALURU: Researchers from Microsoft Research and a group of Ph.D. students from the MIT Media Lab have invented a temporary tattoo capable of accessing and controlling a smartphone remotely. Staging an elevated level of flexibility and innovation, the gadget has indeed reinvented the trend of using wearable devices.

Technically, apart from being a tattoo, it also acts as a wearable device that works as a touchpad to control a smartphone remotely. It also facilitates the feature of sharing data using the NFC (Near Field Communication) capability. The gadget of innovation is known as DuoSkin. Researchers claim that a circuit can be effectively designed with the help of any graphic software. Proceeding further, the tattoo can be attached to a gold leaf as it yields conductive properties to deal with electricity. Then, additional components and commodity materials can be blended with the tattoo to make it interactive.

Explaining further about the tattoo, researchers say that the users can use it to turn their skin into a trackpad. Users also have the facility to design the tattoo in a way that it can receive data or even change its colour based on the temperature. Just like a regular temporary tattoo, it can be applied by sticking it on the skin with a damp cloth on the top, and gently peeling off the tattoo paper. The paper has already been published on the MIT’s website and will be presented with the full details at a wearables symposium expected to be conducted next month.
