Bored of Catching Pokemons? How about Cats?

BENGALURU: Most of you might be aware of the little flappy bird Easter egg in Android Lollipop. The game was a hidden surprise for users and surprises have been Google’s trademark over the years. Later, Google disappointed users when it continued with the same flappy bird game in Android Marshmallow with minor changes (Marshmallows appeared as obstacles instead of Lollipops). Well, this time it ain’t gonna be like that! Google is debuting an all new hidden “cat-catching” game in Android Nougat, and it’s cool.

The game is a bit similar to the popular—Neko Atsume Kitty Collector, a virtual cat-collecting game and it also seems to be inspired by Pokémon Go. Yeah, you heard it right. However, instead of Pokeballs, users are provided with different food choices like Bits, Fish, Chicken, and Treat for luring the cats, say the folks at Droid Life. Sounds interesting, huh? Here’s how you play the game in Nougat’s latest developer preview.

Like the flappy bird game, you need to go to the About Phone tab in Settings and tap on the Android version 3 times. Subsequently, a large “N” icon (for Nougat) will appear on your display screen. Now, all you need to do is tap the icon for a few times and then long press it. Soon a “cat emoji” will show up on the display and when you tap on it, a “no entry emoji” will appear. Patience, you are almost there.

Then, pull down your quick settings panel and tap on edit; there will be a cat head emoji waiting for you with the text “???? Android Easter Egg” tile. Long press the tile and move it into your quick settings list. Surprise, the cat head emoji has turned into an “Empty Dish”. Tapping the empty dish tile will reveal the four food choices mentioned earlier.

Select any one of the dish and wait till a notification, “a cat is here” alerts you. When you tap on the pop up a funny cat image will appear and you can add it to your collection or share the image with your friends through any app. That’s it; you are now a successful cat catcher. Spoiler alert: catching a cat can take some time, hours maybe, or even days.
