Apple to Ditch the 3.5 mm Audio Jack In iPhone 7

BENGALURU: Apple is one tech giant that mark the headlines with some innovations every time a new iPhone is introduced. This time, the rumors and reports suggest that it’s in reality starting to look like the headphone jack’s days are numbered. While most of the leaked pictures of the iPhone 7 don’t feature a headphone jack, reports says that the iPhone 7 will lose its headphone jack – but gain an extra speaker like the iPad Pro. The users will be probably ‘stuck’ when Apple is abandoning something as beloved as the 3.5mm headphone jack that was part of a standard which has been around since 1878.

The customers will be forced to plug in via the Lightning port, which will mean purchasing an expensive adapter for many, or using Bluetooth headphones. In such a case, the old headphones will become a complete waste for the user and there will be an additional expense of buying a new model compatible with the lightning port. Not only the user has to keep multiple headphones to use non apple devices or get an adapter to convert the plugs but also listening to music while recharging will become a myth.

Other ‘leaked’ photos of cases for the new iPhone7 claims that Apple will add a dual-rear camera as well. Design leaks on Japanese blogs and magazines have claimed Apple will introduce a new 3-pin Smart connector, which extends to the back of the device. Apple always gave importance to its cameras, the new iPhone 7 plus is reported to sport dual-lens iSight cameras and 3GB of RAM for image processing. It will be interesting to see how the dual camera setup changes the quality of the pictures from better low-light performance to improved color accuracy and faster autofocus if the rumors come true.

Even though the detailed internal specs for the iPhone 7 aren't yet known, Apple may continue on its path of introducing more powerful, efficient devices. Leaked images showing speaker grills on both the sides of the Lightning port suggest that the iPhone 7 might come with stereo speakers.

iPhone 7 will be an important device for Apple, given the company has seen sales dip for the first time this year for the previous versions. Cook had admitted iPhone 6s didn’t see such a strong upgrade cycle. Apple iPhone 7 might probably launch in September 2016, and in an interview to CNBC Tim Cook has said it would convince users to upgrade. Cook was quoted as saying, “We have great innovation in the pipeline, like new iPhones that will incent you and other people that have iPhones today to upgrade to new iPhones…We are going to give you things that you can’t live without…”
