Airtel Fights Back: Offers Free Data for 90 days

BENGALURU: Bharti Airtel has jumped into the 4G arena to combat Reliance Jio’s offer of free data. It has come up with a 90-day free data plan priced at 1494 for 4G users. The country’s largest provider of telecom services said that the 90-day pack is available for users at 1495 for existing users and 1494 for new users.

According to the company, “The main objective of this offer is to help users stay online without worrying much about exhausting the data limits.”

Sunil Mittal recently said in an interview that he is not losing sleep over the launch of Reliance Jio. “One cannot underestimate the size and scale of Reliance Jio. It has been a big event, but you cannot write us off,” Mittal told ET Now.

This new offer from Airtel is basically aimed to cater to 4G customers who consume lot of data. Right now this offer is available only in Delhi and the company is planning to roll it out in other circles over the next few days.

This offer comes in the wake of Reliance Jio’s offer of free data and free voice for 90 days, which has helped it increase its customer base big time.

The offerings have prompted competition among the various companies to drop data rates by up to 67 percent. However, the new plan of free data is a direct response by the market leader to the new entrant, with the sole aim of retaining its huge market share.
